Training and Food: Leucine Protein Builds more Muscle

Leucine is an essential amino acid which cannot be made by your body. It is one of the three branched-chain-amino-acids. Leucine is a very interesting type of amino acid because research has shown that it may be useful in a diet for building muscle.

In a recent study the effects of leucine were tested by injecting it right into the blood (of pigs). Why you ask? Well, researchers don't know what just one single type of amino acid does, and what effect it has on the body and the muscles. So without any other amino acids or insulin present what does leucine do?

In most research insulin is found to be needed to build muscle. Insulin is made by the body when you eat sugar (or any other form of carbs). What this research found is that leucine does build muscle without any insulin present, interesting.

Now don’t expect that you will grow muscle all day long by just eating leucine. But it may have some effects…
