Running: Amino Taurine magic protects muscle, increases endurance, improves blood fat
Taurine, an amino acid, is reported to increase exercise performance. In a new rat study researchers focused on the effect of Taurine on chronic endurance exercise, like running and cycling, focused on measuring the accumulation of lactic acid (LA), a marker of fatigue and ability of aerobic exercise. The researchers also measured the urinary secretion of 3-methylhistidine (3-MH), a marker of muscle breakdown in rats.
One group of rats were given extra Taurine in their diet. After exercise blood levels of LA and urinary excretion of 3-MH were significantly increased in the rats without the Taurine in it was significantly less in those with the Taurine in their diet.
So Taurine seems to help in keeping Lactic Acids low, making your muscle go on longer without performing less and cramping. And Taurine seems to protect your muscles when you do ay kind of endurance sports like running, cycling etc.
“Taurine treatment also significantly decreased fat accumulation and blood levels of cholesterol and triglyceride, which might improve insulin resistance and utilization of fat and glucose. These results indicate taurine treatment is useful for reducing physical fatigue and muscle damage during exercise training in rats, presumably due to antioxidant property and improvement of muscle and cardiac functions by taurine.”
