new Calcium/Dairy Diet to accelerate Weight Loss
New research has shown that a calorie restricted diet high in Calcium makes you loose weight faster. Researchers followed 32 obese adults on a calorie-controlled diet and divided them in three groups:
1) Low Calcium 2) High calcium (Supplements) 3) High calcium (Dairy)
Both Calcium diets had a particularly beneficial effect on central (abdominal) obesity! Bye bye belly…. In this study the people maintained the same level of activity. So no extra training, calorie burning.
The results of this diet study, subjects lost:
1) 8.1 % of their body fat (low calcium) 2) 11.6 % of their body fat (high-level calcium supplements) 3) 14.1 % body fat (high-dairy diet)
With the high dairy diet fat loss was almost double compared to the low calcium diet. Also the place where the body fat was lost was not the same:
1) 5.3 per cent abdominal region fat 2) 12.9 per cent abdominal fat 3) 14 per cent of abdominal fat
Abdominal fat is usually considered more dangerous to people’s health.
Calcium seems to help you loose weight by suppressing a type of Vitamin D. This vitamin normally helps your body to make new fat and stop destroying old fat. At this moment it is unclear why the high dairy fat produced even better results.
Some possible explanations which we think might be involved:
- Better calcium absorption by the body in dairy products - Other ingredients in dairy, like CLA, that help to improve fat loss - Calories in diet may replace other food sources that block fat loss - High protein diet, lower carb
