Ginger same effect as Vitamin B6 to reduce nausea, retching and vomiting
Up to 80 per cent of pregnant women experience morning sickness during the first months of pregnancy. Vitamin B6 is used to reduce nausea, retching and vomiting. New research suggests 1ginger may also help in reducing nausea, retching and vomiting.
Dr Caroline Smith of the University of South Australia, Adelaide reports in the April issue of Obstetrics and Gynecology that morning sickness improved in over 50% of the 291 pregnant women in the study. In the study ginger performed about the same as vitamin B6.
Both vitamin B6 and ginger did not cause any major side effects, but there have been some concerns that taking ginger during pregnancy may be harmful to babies. The researches say further research is needed.
