Dr Atkins Diet under review by British Government
According to the BBC the British government is concerned about the Atkins Diet. Critics of the dr Atkins diet say it may have consequences such as kidney damage, thin bones and high cholesterol. They also warn for other long-term consequences of high-fat diets such as higher risk of diabetes and early heart attack. A recent study warned that the diet might also reduce woman's chances of conceiving.
About 10 million people in England are trying to follow a diet, and a third of them gives the Atkins Diet a try. The popularity has been increased by praises of celebrities, including singer Robbie Williams and actress Jennifer Aniston.
It’s funny that the UK government is announcing an investigation into the dr Atkins Diet when about three-quarters of adults in the UK are reportedly overweight or obese. It makes you wonder what influenced this decision. And why they didn’t first consider to look at the amount of people suffering from fast food diets and other bad eating habits. Maybe they don’t understand the principle of focusing their efforts more effectively in promoting the peoples health. Especially when you consider that most people following the diet will probably only follow it for a short time before giving up or changing to another diet. Don’t be surprised if the UK is going to launch an investigation into drinking too much water instead of looking at the sugar consumption.
