Health: Unfiltertered Coffee and Espresso increase Cholesterol
If have trouble with your cholesterol or want to avoid high cholesterol and watch your health you might want to rethink your coffee or espresso drinking habits. Researchers recently found why unfiltered or cooked coffee and espresso are responsible for higher cholesterol in drinkers.
The liver is normally responsible for making a substance that keeps your cholesterol under control. In unfiltered coffee a substance called cafestol is present that let’s the liver believe it doesn’t need to make it’s cholesterol filtering substance any more. In paper-filtered coffee the cafestol is filtered out and only present in very low concentrations. Still, if you are having problems with cholesterol you might want to give up coffee altogether and look into drinking thee or consider trying to lower you cholesterol by going on a low fat diet and taking fish oil supplements.
