Too much Fat in your Diet: Blame your mother's low protein diet!
An interesting experiment: Pregnant rats were fed either a control diet or a low-protein (LP) diet. Now monitor what the young offspring eat when they have a choice.
- Both male and female offspring of the Low Protein mothers consumed significantly more of the high-fat. - Female, but not male, offspring of Low Protein mothers failed to adjust food intake to maintain a constant energy intake and had higher fat and energy intakes.
Although after 30 weeks the difference seemed to be gone, this shows how subtle changes in pregnancy and early life can influence a part of your life. And it is important to realize that this probably is the same for the choices in food you make yourselves.
