Stretching not the way to prevent Injury during Exercise/Sports
According to a new study by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) stretching is not the way to prevent injury during Sports and Exercise.
The CDC reviewed six decades of research and found that stretching does not really do anything to prevent injury during exercise when done outside of a warming-up. In some cases the increased flexibility after stretching may actually impede performance.
From personal experience and other sports and exercise research we suggest simply to start running, cycling or whatever at just 40/50 % effort and warm up that way. Then start doing the types of movements at low effort level you are going to make during your sport/exercise and gradually increase effort. This really is the best way to warm up.
We would suggest stretching only when cooling down. This will help keep your muscles loose instead of tightening up. It is also a way to promote more muscle growth after training.
Especially in fitness and power sports it is a well known fact that stretching will take away your maximum explosive power output.
